Local businessman, Assad John Haloute, Chairman and Managing Director of Chefette Restaurants, has achieved greatness. Within the past 31 years, Haloute has successfully built an empire. Like a phoenix rising from the dust, Chefette has mushroomed from a small establishment over 30 years ago to 13 modern, fully equipped restaurants, complete with playground facilities for children and drive-thru conveniences. And the credit for much of this success must be given to the foresight and business acumen of Assad Haloute.
Born in San Fernando, Trinidad, Haloute spares no moment of hesitation in testifying this truth: Chefette is his life. The call to open a restaurant came in 1971 when he arrived in Barbados, with little or in fact, no knowledge of the food and hospitality business. He was swayed into opening a restaurant - a vision which he shared with his brother Elias Haloute.
In December 1972, the Haloutes' vision became a reality when the first Chefette restaurant was opened in Barbados, at Fontabelle, St. Michael. The vision has since grown and so too has Chefette.
The proud father of two children, and an extremely detailed and thorough individual in business, Haloute is not one who loves being in the spotlight. Rather he is the undercurrent, working and planning diligently in the background. He's the builder, working behind the scenes to present to the Barbadian public and to visitors a picture-perfect establishment in the name of Chefette.
In January 2001, Assad Haloute was among 100 Barbadians, who received a Barbados Centennial Award for his pioneering of the fast food industry in Barbados.
